Samsung Medical Center is the first South Korean health provider to get the stage 6 certification under the HIMSS infrastructure adoption model. However, the healthcare company is preparing for stage 7 certification, which is likely to make it the world’s first company holding such certification.
The tertiary hospital states that it has undergone an infrastructure assessment through INFRAM and has successfully completed it. However, the eighth stage ladder will assist healthcare leaders in mapping the healthcare infrastructure and technology capabilities required to reach their infrastructural goals while satisfying the international benchmarks and standards set by the model.
SMC claims to be the supreme in using robots in the country’s healthcare landscape. In addition, some of the tasks undertaken by hospitals in this area include the functioning of reports that automatically dispose of the medical waste from operation rooms along with artificial intelligence-enabled smart caregiver services that examine the condition of elderly patients and offer real-time insights. Further, it has also facilitated the analysis of surgeries in real-time and offers HD video by transmitting a huge amount of data through the 5G network.
However, with the mission to become a state-of-the-art intelligent hospital, SMC is encouraging digital innovation by undertaking a number of innovation tasks, particularly in the areas of logistics and medical treatment. One such example is the consumer mobile app that is undertaken by patients to enquire about their treatment, examination schedule, download medical documents, manage automatic payments, apply for medical treatment, and check their waiting status at outpatient clinics.
Health organizations with not so strong infrastructure may face issues with digital transformation, according to HIMSS. However, the INFRAM model can scale up the person-enabled health and interoperability parameters of digital health. SMC is also looking forward to getting certification for its EMR execution and adoption through HIMSS electronic medical record adoption model.
Recently, SMC has also signed its second crucial deal with telecommunication firm KTS Corporation to involve robotic technology in the medical care center. As per the proposal, these robots will help in carrying blood across surgery operation rooms, bring medical items to doctors, and perform disinfection procedures.
INFRAM is a blueprint for digital health advancement undertaken by HIMSS that involves the 8th stage of digital health integration like home-based telemonitoring (Stage 7) and holding a private cloud strategy (Stage 3). Samsung is concentrating on remote patient monitoring and setting up smart hospitals holding fully functioning 5G-powered smart facilities that can attract more health systems.
